FlowWorks September 2020 Newsletter

Farewell Summer, Let's Get Down to Business

Here in the northern hemisphere there's still about a week left in astronomical summer though most people would agree that early September heralds the onset of autumn and for many it is a reboot of our productivity goals. For me that means more outreach to customers and potential customers. Though in 2020 there are lots of challenges to overcome in that regard.

At FlowWorks we spent much of the summer working under the hood of our platform and will be releasing some amazing new features and upgrades between now and early 2021. We continue to invest heavily on infrastructure that will provide the power, speed, and reliability that you've come to expect from us. Here's a teaser for two items that will be out shortly:

Scripting Engine
F.A.C.E. has been, and will remain, a very powerful tool for manipulating data using advanced mathematical, statistical, and logic equations. We will soon support Python scripting within FlowWorks - supercharging the capability and efficiency with which users can transform sensor data into meaningful insights.

New Application Programming Interface (API)
The future (and present for that matter) will be won by those that make meaningful data more accessible and shareable. To that end we have designed our next API to make it far easier to seamlessly access FlowWorks data from other applications. Additionally, the new API makes it possible to write data data directly to FlowWorks from external sources.

More Pandemic News...
For those of you following our efforts to improve the results of SARS-CoV-2 testing in wastewater there's a new article detailing our efforts and collaboration with the University of Notre Dame's Environmental Change Initiative. This project means a lot to me and I hope you'll read it, find it interesting, and share it with others.

Also... I turn 55 this Saturday. Lordy.

As always, I encourage your feedback. I'm never too busy to respond. Just reply to this message to get a conversation going...

Weather Underground Integration

We haven't met a customer yet that has enough rainfall data. Now FlowWorks users can add sites to their monitoring network using Weather Underground's vast network of public and private weather stations as the data source.

CSO Notification Systems

According to NEWEA, "Communities with combined sewer overflows (CSOs) are increasingly faced with regulatory proposals that require extensive reporting and public notification steps whenever a CSO discharge occurs." If that rings true for you FlowWorks can help. We can work with whatever flow and/or level sensors you have in place to create a public-facing CSO notification system. Here's an example of one...
